Position Summary

Reliably open library in morning and provide full range of library services to anyone who walks in the door - student faculty/staff, public. Provide a one-stop shop for anyone looking for library materials, having fines & lost items to resolve, needing computer access, study room access, or (in absence of a reference librarian) searching for information, take tuition and fee payments.

Primary Responsibilities

Library Operations
  • Open and closes library following established procedures
  • Operates circulation desk
  • Processes material returns
  • Maintains patron database
  • Responds to and assists students, employees, and the public
  • Operates cash register
  • Process library material in accordance with policy and procedure
  • Support the training of student workers
  • Cashiering, AR, Tuition payments
  • Bookstore shipping and receiving

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education – A High School Diploma or GED with some college courses, including coursework in office technology, typing, filing, and bookkeeping is required.
  • Experience – A minimum of two years experience in customer service, including six months serving and supporting student needs is required.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).

Preferred Qualifications
  • An Associate’s Degree is preferred. Library clerk/aide experience preferred.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies)
  • Knowledge – Business English, composition, spelling, punctuation, arithmetic, office practices, inventory, and stock control. Basic working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite products. Knowledge of library systems and practices. Knowledge of including online databases is preferred.
  • Skills – Verbal and written communication skills; computer skills including library specific databases and software.
  • Abilities – Type 50 wpm; maintain confidential information; learn new technologies quickly; work with others in a team environment; communicate effectively and diplomatically with a diverse faculty, staff, student community; accept direction from supervisors; follow work rules and procedures; and accept constructive criticism. Work early and/or late hours and weekends.

Other Requirements
  • For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

  • This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

Physical Demands
The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required for over half of the daily work period (about 70%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials under 5 lbs. daily, 5-25 lbs. occasionally, and 25-60 lbs. rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment. The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate.

Additional Posting Information

This is a Part-time Classified, 19 hour per week (39.28%, 43 weeks/year) position in the Library Services department. Starting compensation is entry level for Group 4 on the 2025-26 Classified Wage Schedule.
