Arapahoe Libraries is looking for (3) part-time Library Specialists to join the team at Eloise May Library, where your passion for customer service, curiosity, and ability to adapt will make a real impact. Our diverse team values different perspectives and lived experiences and works together in a collaborative environment guided by respect, inclusion, and cultural humility. In this role, you'll greet patrons, guide them to resources, assist with technology, and help keep our space inviting and accessible so our busy branch runs smoothly and connects the community with knowledge and opportunity. You will bring genuine enthusiasm for working with youth and teens, supporting their curiosity and helping them feel confident and welcome in the library.

About the Role

Eloise May Library is a lively, welcoming space where people from all walks of life come to learn, connect, and explore. As one of our busiest branches, we serve many patrons each day, and these roles are key to making sure everyone gets the help they need. You'll spend your days guiding patrons to resources, assisting with technology, and creating a space where every visitor feels respected and included. You'll work alongside a collaborative, supportive team committed to keeping the branch running smoothly and delivering excellent service. These part-time Library Specialist positions help provide consistent coverage across library services. Join us in supporting our community and continuing to deliver excellent service.

Key Responsibilities

Patron Assistance and Materials Handling

  • Greet patrons with warmth and assist with accounts, questions, and resources
  • Ensure a safe and welcoming environment by consistently enforcing the Library's Patron Code of Conduct, utilizing de-escalation techniques when addressing patron conflicts or disruptions
  • Promote events and services, and maintain an inviting, organized space
  • Process, shelve, and display materials efficiently
  • Work scheduled shifts that include closing responsibilities and a rotating weekend schedule.

Technology and Instructional Assistance

  • Provide patient, step-by-step help using computers, mobile devices, and library tech tools
  • Troubleshoot basic issues and assist with printing and reservable space equipment
  • Offer instruction in digital literacy, Microsoft 365, and other resources, adapting to a variety of learning styles
  • Use the Integrated Library System for patron and collection support

Learning, Collaboration and Development

  • Stay current on library tools, resources, and services
  • Share knowledge generously with teammates and patrons
  • Collaborate in a respectful, solutions-focused manner to meet community needs

Community Engagement

  • Set expectations for library use with empathy and professionalism
  • Listen actively to patron feedback and communicate insights with supervisors
  • Reflect the library's mission of equity, inclusion, and access in every interaction


What You Will Bring

Customer Service Focus: At least one year of experience in libraries, education, or other customer-facing roles
Tech and Instruction Skills: Comfort with Microsoft 365 and ability to guide others through digital tools and technology challenges
Adaptability and Flexibility: Positive attitude and ease with change in a fast-paced environment
Strong Communication: Ability to engage with people of all ages in a clear, friendly, and respectful way
Equity-Focused Perspective: Commitment to inclusivity, cultural humility, and removing barriers to access
Team Mindset: Ability to contribute to and thrive in a diverse, collaborative team environment
Reliability: Ability to work a rotating weekend schedule and regularly close the library one to two times per week


Qualifications

Required:

  • One year of experience in customer service, education, or libraries
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including rotating weekends and closing shifts
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and eagerness to learn new technologies

Preferred:

  • Experience working with children or teens
  • Confidence helping others navigate digital tools and resources
  • Fluency in another language, preferably: Spanish, Russian, or Arabic


Schedule Requirements

(3) part time positions are available:

  • One position is scheduled to work every weekend and includes evening shifts during the week.
  • Two positions will follow a rotating schedule that includes working one to two closing shifts per week and working every other weekend.
