The City of Liberty Lake Library is looking for an enthusiastic Library Technician to join the team! The Library Technician works under the supervision of the Library Director. Under general supervision, the Library Technician performs circulation and specialized paraprofessional library duties, and related work as required.
NOTE: This position will start October 1st 2026
Job Duties
A. Staffs the library circulation desk, answers phones, checks library materials in and out, registers customers for library cards and updates library accounts, and orders various library materials. Supports other circulation duties. Explains library procedures and policies.
B. Receives payments, provides receipts, balances and reconciles cash amounts, maintains and processes cash records according to established procedures.
C. Shelve, sort, file, and retrieve books, periodicals, and media, pack and unpack shipments of library materials, process materials for circulation.
D. Provides assistance to library customers with basic reference questions. Direct or refer complex readers' advisory and reference questions to a Librarian or appropriate staff member.
E. Assist customers in resolving technical problems or issues with library equipment.
F. Catalog new print and non-print materials. Identify MARC electronic record and add or edit it within current ILS. Use bibliographic sources to locate and verify information used in cataloging. Search databases to locate cataloging information and maintains the computer catalog.
G. Process new print and non-print materials; including laminating book covers, bar-coding, labeling, stamping, attaching plastic jackets or covers, and affixing various labels.
H. Repair or mend library materials, as required.
I. May order and process interlibrary loan requests and returns.
J. May serve as Volunteer Coordinator or Homebound Services Coordinator.
K. Attend meetings, trainings, and workshops as assigned.
L. Assist with special projects as required.
M. Participate on committees or teams as assigned.
N. Perform other library support services including assisting with opening and closing, and maintaining the library in neat, clean, and orderly condition.
O. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience:
I. At least two years of experience providing customer service in a library or public service environment and at least one year of experience in cataloging, processing, and/or interlibrary loans is required.
Required Credentials:
I. Completion of an AA/AS degree with a library focus. Additional experience related to the duties of the position may substitute for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.
Required Schedule:
30 hours per week

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a referral and counseling service offered to employees and their eligible dependents.
HRA VEBA: Upon the adoption of the annual budget, the City of Liberty Lake contributes a predetermined dollar amount to the employee’s HRA VEBA account on an annual basis.
Voluntary Benefits: The City of Liberty Lake offers voluntary benefits such as supplemental life insurance for employees and spouse/domestic partners, and dependent children.
RETIREMENT BENEFITS
Public Employees' Retirement System: PERS Employees' Retirement System (PERS) is a plan choice retirement plan (PERS 2 or PERS 3) covering non-uniformed employees.
Deferred Compensation
457: This is a voluntary plan that employees can contribute an additional dollar amount or a percentage of each check.
PAID TIME OFF
City of Liberty Lake observes twelve (12) paid holidays, prorated based on hire date. Twenty-four (24) hours of floating holiday are provided each year; however, the hours are prorated based on the quarter hired for the first year. Employees accrue three (3) hours of paid vacation year pay period. Sick leave is frontloaded upon hire with thirty (30) hours, after six (6) months employees will accrue three (3) hours per pay period.
