The Oberlin College Libraries invite applications for the position of Library Technician II in the Terrell Library. This is a full time, 12-month, continuing, Administrative Assistant position, reporting to the Head of Acquisitions, Gifts, E-resources & Serials.
Responsibilities
Incumbents independently perform limited and routine paraprofessional duties related to library acquisitions, electronic resources, and continuing resources.
Essential Job Functions
- Processes orders and renews all new and existing continuing resources.
- Verifies payment of invoices for all continuing resource orders and corresponds with providers related to invoice adjustments.
- Ensures that continuing resources renew on time.
- Regularly reviews missing print issues or volumes. Communicates with serials technician about claimed issues or volumes and back orders for missing serial issues.
- Prepares orders and cancellations for both current subscriptions and backfiles and communicates with providers regarding these transactions.
- Corresponds with vendors or publishers with questions or problems.
- Troubleshoots access problems and directs vendor questions to the appropriate staff for answers.
- Receives site license agreements and makes sure they are signed and returned to the providers in a timely manner.
- Ensures that IP addresses are correctly listed with the providers and notifies them of changes. This enables on-campus access as well as access via the proxy server. It also ensures that usage statistics are retrieved.
- Assists with maintaining the e-resources knowledge base to ensure the timely activation and discoverability of newly purchased or added electronic resources, including Open Access resources.
- Assists with developing and documenting workflows, processes, and best practices to support the life cycle of e-resources.
- Maintains access points for e-resources in the library’s discovery layer and catalog to ensure accuracy and reliable access for the library’s users.
- Performs regular maintenance of electronic resources, including impacts from updated subscription packages.
- Collects e-resource usage reports from vendors and makes them available to liaisons.
- Assists liaison librarians with analyzing and evaluating usage of e-resources.
Required Qualifications
College degree or equivalent library experience. This knowledge and ability is typically gained through one to two years of experience in performing duties at the Library Technician I level with various degrees of supervision. This level requires the qualifications described at the Library Technician I level. A high degree of accuracy is required.
Desired Qualifications
Library experience, preferably with an integrated library system and/or electronic resources management platform; experience communicating with library vendors; experience working with MARC bibliographic records; ability to identify key information on both domestic and international invoices for payments.
Compensation
The Pay Grade 5 Administrative Assistant position is to be filled at an hourly rate of $24.92 or at the appropriate transfer rate for internal candidates and includes an excellent benefits package.
