Library Youth Services Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a part-time seasonal, 20-hour per week position.

As a seasonal Library Youth Services Assistant, you will assist with the summer reading program, including registrations, prize handouts, and program assistance. You will support program preparation, maintain organized and welcoming spaces, and help Youth Services staff as directed. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, families, and the community while gaining experience in library services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support (40%)

• Assist staff during library programs by running stations, distributing materials, or facilitating activities.
• Help with setup and cleanup for programs and events.
• Support tween and kids program preparation and activity organization.
• Prepare craft or program supplies as needed.

Customer Service (40%)

• Assist patrons with summer reading program registration and prize pickup.
• Provide basic reader’s advisory, helping patrons find books and materials appropriate to their interests and reading levels.
• Offer reference assistance by helping patrons locate materials, resources, and information within the library.

Collection and Space Management (20%)

• Maintain volunteer desk and summer reading prize bins.
• Tidy shelves and maintain orderly and filled book displays.
• Clean, pick up, and organize toys to maintain a safe environment.
• Participate in the responsibility for the general appearance and safety of the library as a whole.
• Assist in opening and closing procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• One year of related experience in a library setting or working with children is preferred but not required.

• Work productively in a team environment

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS

This position is subject to a mandatory drug screening (5 Panel - Includes THC) and a background screening.

HOURLY PAY RANGE

$15.16 - $20.81/Hourly Rate

This is a part-time, seasonal position with an anticipated 20 hours per week.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a standard library environment, requiring standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs.). This job requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for extended periods of time.
