Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) - Independent Contractor

Helix is an innovative, fast-paced human service agency in Minnesota working to eliminate barriers in accessing mental health, chemical health, and housing services for people throughout Minnesota that are under-served. Helix provides five (5) areas of service across the state of Minnesota: Community-Based Mental Health Services, Low Intensity Outpatient Treatment Services and SBIRT, Mental Health Targeted Case Management (MH-TCM), Community Health Worker (CHW) Services, and Housing Support. Helix provides culturally responsive care that is individualized to meet the needs of people served.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) is responsible for providing professional counseling services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. This role involves conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating group and individual counseling sessions, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide community-based mental health case management services to qualifying adults, ages 18 and older, diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness.
  • Conduct assessments to determine clients' needs and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Provide both individual and group counseling to support clients struggling with addiction
  • Maintain an active caseload of 8-16 clients
  • Implement behavioral therapy techniques to assist clients in managing addictive behaviors
  • Utilize motivational interviewing to encourage positive behavioral changes
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records following medical documentation standards
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients
  • Offer crisis intervention when necessary to support clients in distress
  • Promote harm reduction interventions related to substance use, mental health, and infectious disease
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of licensed therapists, mental health targeted case managers, Community Health Workers, and nurses.
  • Participate in weekly supervision with directmanager to review caseloads, professional development, and agency practices.
  • Receive weekly one-on-one supervision to ensure ongoing support, accountability, and skill development.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Psychology - Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Therapy and Counseling - Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a behavioral science field (ex. social work, psychology,)
  • Valid LADC license in Minnesota
  • 3 years of experience in an outpatient treatment setting
  • Familiarity with 245G policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver's license and car insurance for travel between sites and other business-related destinations
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check
  • Must be free of problematic substance use for at least two years

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position requires the ability to perform various physical tasks essential to job duties. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Lifting: Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Bending & Stooping: Frequent bending, kneeling, and stooping may be required to access materials, equipment, or perform job-related tasks.
  • Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting may be necessary, depending on the nature of work.
  • Walking & Standing: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including navigating various work environments.
  • Reaching & Stretching: Occasional reaching overhead or in awkward positions to retrieve or handle materials.
  • General Mobility: Adequate physical ability to move freely within the workspace and perform assigned duties safely and efficiently.

Pay: $25.00 - $34.00 per hour
