About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, professional, and safety-focused Licensed Boat Captain to operate trips to and around the Daymaniyat Islands, one of Oman’s premier marine and eco-tourism destinations. This role is ideal for a confident mariner who values seamanship, guest experience, and environmental responsibility. English communication is essential, as you will regularly interact with international guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate and navigate vessels to and around the Daymaniyat Islands in accordance with maritime laws and best practices
- Take full command of the vessel, passengers, and crew at all times
- Plan routes based on weather, sea conditions, and operational requirements
- Conduct pre-departure safety checks and ensure the vessel is seaworthy
- Deliver clear safety briefings to passengers in English
- Monitor weather forecasts and make sound judgment calls regarding trip safety and cancellations
- Ensure compliance with Omani maritime regulations, coast guard requirements, and protected marine area rules
- Maintain accurate logbooks, trip records, and incident reports
- Coordinate with operations/management regarding schedules, fuel, provisioning, and maintenance needs
- Supervise and guide deckhands or crew (if applicable)
- Assist guests professionally and courteously, ensuring a high-quality experience
- Protect marine life and ensure eco-friendly practices are followed at all times
- Handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently
Required Qualifications
- Valid Boat Captain License recognized in Oman (or transferable with the ability to obtain local approval)
- Proven experience operating similar-sized vessels
- Strong knowledge of navigation, COLREGs, maritime safety, and emergency procedures
- Fluent English speaking ability (Arabic is a plus but not required)
- Strong understanding of local waters, tides, and weather patterns (Daymaniyat experience is a major advantage)
- Physically fit and able to work in marine conditions
- Clean criminal and maritime safety record
Preferred Certifications (Highly Desirable)
- STCW certification
- First Aid, CPR, and Marine Safety training
- VHF Radio Operator Certificate
- Experience in eco-tourism, diving, snorkeling, or charter operations
