- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Additional certifications, or training provided upon hire.
- Decisiveness, patience, and stamina to lift, or carry children.
Child Supervision & Care
- Supervise children at all times to ensure safety
- Assist with feeding, diapering, toileting, and hygiene
- Monitor children’s behavior and emotional well-being
- Help maintain proper child-to-adult ratios (per licensing rules)
Learning & Activities
- Assist in planning and leading age-appropriate activities (arts, play, early learning)
- Encourage social, emotional, and cognitive development
- Support routines like circle time, reading, and outdoor play
Health & Safety
- Maintain a clean, hazard-free environment
- Follow sanitation procedures (toys, surfaces, food prep areas)
- Recognize and respond to illness or injury
- Assist in emergency preparedness and drills
Administrative Support
- Help track attendance and daily logs
- Communicate basic updates to parents
- Assist with meal prep and cleanup
- Organize supplies and materials
- Licensing & Legal Requirements (California)
Under California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Criminal background clearance (Live Scan fingerprinting)
- TB test clearance
- CPR and First Aid certification (often pediatric-specific)
- Must be supervised by the licensed provider
- Cannot be left alone with children unless meeting specific qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children (infants, toddlers, or preschoolers)
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) units (preferred)
- Knowledge of child development
- Bilingual skills
Work Environment
- Private home (licensed family childcare)
- Small group setting (mixed ages)
- May involve lifting children, standing for long periods, and active play
