We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) to join our therapy team at Assisted Living and Independent Living communities located within the Palos/Orland Park area.

The Physical Therapy Assistant will report to the Director of Rehabilitation Services.

Job Overview

Assists physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assists physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures.
  • Administers traction to relieve neck and back pain.
  • Instructs, motivates, and assists patients to learn and improve functional activities.
  • Observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patient responses to treatments and progress and reports findings to physical therapist.
  • Fits patients for, adjusts, and trains patients in use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
  • Confers with members of physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
  • Gives orientation to new physical therapist assistants and directs and gives instructions to physical therapy aides.
  • Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.
  • Measures patient's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist Physical Therapist to compile data for patient evaluations.
  • Monitors treatments administered by physical therapy aides.

Physical Requirements

  • Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the phone.
  • Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients and clients in person and over the phone.
  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens
  • Other: Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds of medical supplies and equipment and the transferring and repositioning of patients. Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling are undertaken which exceeds these minimum requirements. Must be able to withstand extended periods of time: standing, walking, reaching, twisting (knees/waist/neck), crouching (bend at knees), and stooping (bend at waist).

Pay: From $35.00 per hour
