POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager Facilities Services the Life Safety Technician is a hospital based technician responsible for maintaining, inspecting, testing, calibrating, replacing and repairing life safety systems, with a focus on correcting Environment of Care (EOC) deficiencies within the hospital. The Life Safety Technician will work with the Environmental Health Specialist to keep track of maintenance schedules and ensure all inspections, EOC deficiencies and testing are done according to standards and codes set forth by manufacturers, federal, state, and local jurisdictions, and customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Inspecting, testing, and maintaining various life safety systems, like fire / smoke doors and dampers, fire extinguishers, exit signs, emergency lighting, and emergency generators.
Ensuring all systems and devices meet safety codes and standards, such as NFPA, OSHA, standards.
Participate in weekly (EOC) rounds, perform (EOC) deficiency repairs.
Installation and daily inspection of erected Infectious Control Risk (ICRA) barriers.
Monitors life safety device’s performance and analyzes trends – develops improvement plans to reduce unscheduled downtime
Assist with the development of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program and performs proper maintenance of life safety devices to reduce the potential of Life Safety equipment impairment events
Assist with the development of a comprehensive inventory/spare parts lists to mitigate failure events and to improve efficiency of routine repair/replace events
Assist with the development of procedures for safety, operation and maintenance of Life Safety devices and performance monitoring of Life Safety devices (i.e. sprinkler and fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, fire / smoke dampers, fire / smoke doors, duct detectors, etc…).
Reviews and updates drawings, PM elements, logs, status reports and downtime actions for life safety devices.
Maintains department records, equipment manuals and life safety devices histories
Performs alterations, new installations and repairs on some life safety devices as required – coordinates efforts with contractors when necessary
Reads and interprets drawings, operating manuals, schematics and technical specifications
Trouble shoots and repairs mechanical, electrical and plumbing sub-systems when necessary
Operates equipment within life safety devices group as scheduled
Performs other tasks such as but not limited to: snow removal; grounds care; painting; cleaning; etc. when necessary
Performs all other general maintenance duties that are possible with the equipment available.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
