Lifestyle Editor

Northern Virginia Magazine, the region's premier lifestyle publication, is seeking an experienced, creative, and highly organized Lifestyle Editor to lead coverage across our print magazine, website and newsletters.

This role is ideal for a seasoned editor and writer who thrives on generating compelling story ideas, managing multiple content streams, and producing high-quality journalism that connects with affluent and engaged audiences throughout Northern Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, assign, write, and edit engaging lifestyle content for both print and digital platforms.
• Oversee coverage of topics including food and drink, travel, things to do and more.
• Manage daily lifestyle-related online newsletters and posts for website.
• Contribute to daily news coverage and collaborate on content for the NoVA Daily newsletter.
• Contribute ideas for daily and weekly content planning meetings.
• Edit and proof print stories in Word, InDesign, and PDF formats.
• Edit and produce digital stories in WordPress, including photo formatting.
• Manage editorial interns.
• Attend media events, conduct interviews, and represent the magazine within the community.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional writing and editing experience, preferably in magazines, newspapers, digital media, or lifestyle publications.
• Strong editorial judgment and the ability to generate fresh, audience-focused story ideas.
• Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills.
• Deep understanding of digital publishing, audience engagement, and content strategy.
• Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and content optimization.
• Experience with WordPress or other content management systems.
• Knowledge of AP Style and a keen eye for attention to detail in editing and proofing.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Interest in and knowledge of Northern Virginia's communities, culture, dining scene, and lifestyle trends.
