Lighting and Electrical Designer

Residential Lighting Designer
Location: Houston, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time

About Wynne Walker Group
Wynne Walker Group provides premier residential building systems consulting services to ultra-high-net-worth families in Houston. Our mission is to simplify the home building and homeownership experience through holistic electrical pre-construction design and construction management. We challenge the status quo with a passion for excellence, innovation, and an empathetic approach that supports architects, designers, builders, and homeowners.

Job Overview
The Residential Lighting Designer is a key technical role on our consulting team, responsible for creating sophisticated lighting designs while leading line voltage electrical design for the entire residence. This includes power distribution, circuitry, and coordination across all electrical systems in custom luxury homes.

You will produce high-quality documentation using Revit and collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, and builders from schematic design through construction administration. Your work ensures well-defined projects that reduce costs, minimize delays, and deliver beautiful, functional electrical and lighting systems built to last.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive residential lighting designs, including concept development, lighting layouts, fixture specifications, layering (ambient, task, accent), photometric studies/renderings, and integration with the home’s electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform line voltage electrical design for the entire residence, including power distribution systems, panel schedules and coordination, circuitry, load calculations, wiring diagrams, and compliance with electrical codes and standards.
  • Document low voltage technology systems, including lighting controls, dimming protocols, scene programming, home automation interfaces, distributed audio/video, and other integrated smart-home elements.
  • Create detailed Revit models and drawings for lighting and electrical systems, ensuring accurate coordination with architectural, structural, and MEP elements.
  • Utilize lighting design and visualization software such as AGI32, Dialux, SketchUp, and Enscape for photometric calculations, 3D renderings, and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, and builders during schematic design, design development, and construction administration to integrate lighting and electrical systems holistically.
  • Review architectural and electrical plans, conduct site visits as needed, and provide guidance on fixture placement, power distribution, and system coordination.
  • Prepare clear documentation, budgets, and specifications that support accurate project definition and help control costs (aligning with our emphasis on well-defined projects costing approximately 17% less than averages).
  • Troubleshoot lighting and electrical issues during construction and coordinate with vendors for procurement and installation.
  • Stay current with advancements in lighting technology, line voltage electrical practices, low voltage integration, and luxury residential design trends.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in residential or architectural lighting design for high-end/custom luxury homes (3+ years preferred).
  • Strong expertise in line voltage electrical design for complete residential power distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to document low voltage technology systems and their integration.
  • Proficiency in Revit (required) for modeling and documenting lighting and electrical systems.
  • Experience with lighting design and visualization software, including AGI32, Dialux, SketchUp, and Enscape (preferred).
  • Strong portfolio showcasing creative lighting concepts, technical line voltage electrical drawings, low voltage system documentation, Revit models, and successful project outcomes.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, load calculations, and building systems coordination.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills—able to translate complex technical details into clear recommendations for design teams and clients.
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management abilities; experience in pre-construction consulting or construction administration is highly valued.
  • Professionalism and discretion suited for ultra-high-net-worth clientele, combined with empathy, patience, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Lighting Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred. Relevant certifications (e.g., CLD or IALD) are a plus.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple projects and conduct site visits in a fast-paced environment.
