Lighting Product Development Engineer & Designer
Location: Vernon, California (Onsite Only)
Openings: 2 roles — Junior and Senior
Schedule: Monday–Friday, full onsite

Are you excited by the idea of designing products that you can actually build, test, and refine with your own hands?

Do you enjoy working in a small, collaborative engineering team where you get exposure to every part of the product lifecycle?

Our client — a long, established, family run lighting manufacturer in Vernon, CA — is hiring two Product Development Engineers & Designers to support their growing product line.

This is a place where you won’t be stuck in one lane. You’ll sketch concepts, create drawings, build prototypes, run tests, specify components, support assembly, and help bring new lighting products to life for both residential and commercial markets. If you love variety, ownership, and seeing your work move from idea to production, you’ll feel right at home here.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop LED lighting fixtures from concept through production.

  • Apply knowledge of photometry, optics, and thermal management to optimize performance.

  • Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

  • Build and test prototypes to validate functionality, durability, and safety.

  • Conduct performance testing, including:

  • Photometric measurements.

  • Thermal analysis.

  • Electrical testing.

  • Oversee UL, ETL, and other safety certifications, ensuring compliance and coordinating with manufacturing.

  • Analyze test results and implement design improvements.

  • Manage the product development process from early concept to final launch.

  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, and assembly teams to ensure smooth production.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of designs, test results, and specifications.

  • Support product quality control and inspection of manufactured components.

  • Improve and refine existing product lines.

  • Work hands on across engineering functions — design, testing, assembly support, component specification, and more.

    What You Bring
    For the Junior Engineer

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

  • Internship or early career experience in product development, engineering, or prototyping.

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks/AutoCAD and basic testing methodologies.

  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, and comfort working hands on.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

For the Senior Engineer

  • 5+ years of experience in product development, ideally in lighting or a related electro mechanical field.

  • Strong understanding of photometry, optics, thermal management, and LED technologies.

  • Proven experience taking products from concept through production.

  • Experience with UL/ETL certification processes.

  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements.

  • Strong cross functional communication and project leadership skills.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Join a tight knit engineering team where your work is visible and valued.

  • Be part of a family run company with over 30 years of stability and growth.

  • Work on a wide variety of engineering tasks — no silos, no bureaucracy.

  • See your designs move quickly from concept to prototype to production.

  • Enjoy a hands on environment where creativity and problem solving thrive.
