SUMMARY:
The Limited Term Human Resources Generalist is a trusted, versatile HR professional responsible for supporting a broad range of human resources functions across the employee life cycle. This role delivers operational excellence and a human-centered employee experience in leave of absence administration, benefits, health and safety, and core HR programs. The HR Generalist exercises sound judgment, applies employment laws and internal policies consistently, and partners with employees and leadership to promote compliance, equity, and alignment with the organization’s mission and values.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leave of Absence Administration
- Administer and coordinate all leave of absence programs, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), paid state leave programs, military leave, and other employer-sponsored leave programs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees going on or returning from leave, providing timely, accurate, and compassionate guidance throughout the process.
- Coordinate with payroll, benefits providers, and state agencies to ensure accurate pay, benefits continuation, and documentation during leave periods.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local leave regulations and maintain complete and accurate records.
Benefits Administration
- Support the administration of all employer-sponsored benefit programs in partnership with external brokers and vendors.
- Coordinate and manage the annual open enrollment process and qualifying life event changes.
- Communicate proactively with employees regarding benefit options, wellness programs, reimbursement opportunities, and account usage.
Health, Safety, and Workers’ Compensation
- Serve as the lead for Workers’ Compensation claims administration, coordination, and return-to-work processes.
- Maintain and update the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and other required health and safety plans.
- Provide guidance and communication related to workplace health and safety requirements and act as a designated safety monitor during emergency situations.
Employee Relations and General HR Support
- Serve as a resource for employees, responding to inquiries and providing guidance on policies, procedures, and workplace concerns.
- Support employee relations matters, including intake, documentation, and resolution of routine issues, escalating sensitive or complex matters to leadership as appropriate.
- Interpret and apply HR policies consistently while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and respect for employees.
- Support onboarding, offboarding, personnel changes, and the maintenance of accurate employee records in HRIS and related systems.
- Update organizational charts, staff directories, and internal communications to reflect staffing and organizational changes.
- Assist with the development, review, and updating of the employee handbook, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance compliance, operational effectiveness, equity, and the overall employee experience.
- Process HR and office mail as needed.
- May provide receptionist coverage while in the office.
- Special HR projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible Human Resources experience may be considered.
- Minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of progressive Human Resources experience across multiple HR functions.
- Advanced experience administering California leave of absence programs, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA, and state-sponsored paid leave programs.
- Working knowledge of benefits administration, employee relations practices, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Professional HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar) preferred but not required. Skills and Abilities

COMPUTER SKILLS
Must be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook, database software, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, applicant tracking systems (i.e., Hireology preferred), HRIS systems (ADP experience highly desirable) Zoom and Teams platforms and internet use.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Passion for the Foundation’s mission is essential.
- Familiarity with full life cycle recruitment processes.
- Proven experience with onboarding best practices and new employee orientation facilitation.
- Familiarity with HR databases, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and Candidate Management Systems (CMS), including Hireology.

Sierra Health Foundation offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- Salary: The hiring range for this position is $74,400 TO $85,000 annually. In alignment with our commitment to pay equity and transparency, we do not consider salary counters above this range.
