Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Linguist to join our team as a contractor. This part-time position is crucial to supporting the preservation and revitalization of the Saskinax am Alaiit Tunuu language, spoken on five islands. The role involves working closely with the CEO to extract and organize linguistic data from a multilingual dictionary, develop linguistic goals, and strategize solutions for scattered language resources.

Responsibilities

• Dictionary Analysis: Review and extract relevant Saskinax am Alaiit Tunuu words from a multilingual dictionary.
• Linguistic Goal Development: Collaborate with the CEO to establish and document clear linguistic goals for the project.
• Resource Analysis: Analyze existing language resources and identify challenges due to their dispersion.
• Strategic Planning: Develop actionable strategies to overcome identified language resource challenges.
• Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with the CEO, providing regular updates and insights.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Degree in Linguistics, Language Studies, or a related field.
• Experience: Proven experience in language analysis and project-based linguistics work.
• Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop strategic plans for language documentation and preservation.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding of and respect for the cultural significance of language preservation.
