Position Title: Literacy Coach
Reports To: VP of Impact
Hourly Rate: $42.00
FLSA Status: Seasonal / Non-exempt
General Purpose:
Scholars Unlimited is a community-based non-profit program helping young learners master critical literacy skills. Our mission is to foster academic, social, and emotional growth for children living in metro Denver communities. Our summer program is geared toward grades K-5 and includes reading, SEL, STEM, and recreation/enrichment components. These programs are educational, engaging, and effective.
The Literacy Coach provides coaching, guidance, and instructional support to Literacy Teachers and Academic Specialists to ensure the effective delivery of the literacy portion of the program. This role helps ensure that literacy programming is implemented with fidelity to the Scholars Unlimited model. It also supports the consistent delivery of the program’s core components, including literacy intervention, project-based learning, oral reading, and social-emotional (SEL) instruction. The Literacy Coach works collaboratively with the academic team and program leadership to support high-quality instruction and promote a positive and engaging learning environment for scholars.
Scholars Unlimited summer program will start June 9, 2026, and end July 17, 2026. The program will be held in our partner schools in Northeast Denver, Southwest Denver, Sheridan, and Westminster. The Literacy Coach will work Monday - Thursday from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM and will attend mandatory training sessions the week of June 1, 2026.
Essential Functions:
Ensure academic team is providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere
Ensure academic team is actively engaging students to express themselves, and to be creative
Ensure academic team is following the schedule created by Scholars Unlimited
Ensure academic team is using the curriculum provided by Scholars Unlimited
Communicate with Program Management team with any issues or concerns of scholars behavior and general program operations
Support academic team with fidelity to program components, time management, and general classroom management
Communicate with Scholars Unlimited staff and providers
Attend all training and staff meetings
Allow for flexibility in order to support the team and program as needed
Adhere to Colorado childcare licensure rules and regulations
Adhere to all policies and procedures and implementing the best practices of Scholars Unlimited
Provide one-on-one and small group literacy pulls out when needed
Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the success of Scholars Unlimited

Eligible for overtime as defined by the Colorado Overtime & Minimum Pay Standards Order
In accordance with the Healthy Families Workplace Act, employers must provide at least 1 hour of accrued, paid sick leave per 30 hours of work, up to 48 hours per year. Paid sick leave will begin accruing upon hire date.
Up to 2 paid holidays (Juneteenth/June 19 and Independence Day/July 4)
Compensation:
Hourly Rate is $42.00

Experience:
Five or more years of experience working with elementary-aged students in literacy instruction, tutoring, after school, or extended learning programs
Five or more years experience supporting or coaching educators, tutors, or youth development staff in instructional or classroom practices
Experience implementing literacy curriculum or evidence-based reading strategies, including small group instruction or intervention
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, Elementary Education or related field is required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated commitment to Scholars Unlimited’s mission, values, and advancing equitable opportunities for elementary-aged youth, including a commitment to racial equity
Knowledge of foundational literacy practices including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension
Ability to support staff in implementing curriculum with fidelity and maintaining effective classroom management practices
Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with instructional staff, program leadership, and partners
Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations professionally
Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to follow protocol and adhere to program procedures
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive learning environment
Bilingual in Spanish is desired
Minimum Qualifications:
A current valid teaching license
Obtain all required child care licensing certifications within 30 days of hire
Attend and successfully complete all required paid trainings
Be available to work the scheduled program hours
Complete and pass criminal history background checks prior to the start of employment
