Overview

Cannabis-focused law firm seeks a Litigation Associate who is excited to dive into varied dispute resolution matters. No prior cannabis law experience is required, as long as you have a curious mind and a desire to learn.

You will have the opportunity to grow with the firm and handle matters ranging from regulatory and Article 78 proceedings to multi-million dollar commercial litigations. You will manage all aspects of litigation, including, without limitation, drafting pleadings, conducting legal research, overseeing discovery, drafting motions, attending court appearances and hearings, and arguing motions. This position offers the right candidate the opportunity to help shape New York's legal cannabis landscape.

Additionally, you may have the opportunity to become involved in aspects of the firm's transactional practice.

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive legal and factual research using LexisNexis+, FOIL requests, publicly-available online resources, and the like.
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other legal documents.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Attend court appearances, and argue motions.
  • Attend and participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Manage case files meticulously, ensuring all documentation complies with court rules and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel to facilitate negotiations and settlement discussions when appropriate.
  • Assist with the development of case strategy.
  • Support the Managing Partner in analyzing complex legal issues in a rapidly-developing area of the law.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with active New York bar membership. Other bar memberships are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the CPLR.
  • 4+ years of litigation experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Superior analytical abilities.
  • Ability to efficiently manage a variety of small and large matters.

Though not necessary, the following "plus" factors will help a candidate stand out:

  • Demonstration of relevant litigation experience;
  • Big law firm experience or other sophisticated litigation experience;
  • Experience in cannabis-related matters;
  • Admission to bars of other states where adult-use cannabis is legal.

The firm offers health, dental, and vision insurance, along with a 401k. This position is hybrid, with the office just steps from the White Plains train station.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $145,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
