About the Role:

The Litigation/Medical Records Paralegal assists attorneys primarily by requesting medical and employment records and summarizing records by identifying relevant information related to a party’s case. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the skill to manage time and multiple tasks, and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast paced environment. This position is often also in communication with opposing attorneys and legal staff as well as medical providers and other organizations outside the firm. Candidates with an educational or employment background in a medical field are encouraged to apply.

Specific tasks include:

· Analyze discovery responses and request medical and employment records.

· Process and monitor invoices and billing for record requests

· Create working binders for attorneys and expert witnesses.

· Obtain and summarize medical, employment and other records.

· Conduct on-line research using social media and other web-based sources.

· Manage multiple tasks and deadlines to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.

· Draft discovery responses to opposing counsel.

· Occasional trial preparation and other assistance

· Track billable time and expenses.

· Other duties as assigned, which may include providing backup coverage when needed at the office reception desk or for other staff.

Demonstrated experience, skills, and abilities in these areas are required. Experience in the legal and/or medical field is preferred.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Associate degree in paralegal studies or a related field. Equivalent experience or formal education in a medical, legal, or other professional field will be considered in lieu of this requirement.

State Bar Certified Paralegal preferred

Experience

2 years related experience in a law firm or performing activities related to this position preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Computer Skills

Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Experience with electronic case-management software (Action Step or similar) preferred but not required.

Other Requirements

Knowledge of litigation or family law.

Proven ability to work independently and as a team member.

Positive “can do” attitude.
