Small but growing law firm seeks experienced or trained paralegal to assist multiple attorneys in various areas and provide excellent customer service to our clients.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Be proficient in operating AOC Civil portal, eCourts, File&Serve, and use the Court Portal, including filing cases, pleadings, and notices;
- Provide support to attorneys as assigned, including but not limited to: scheduling and attending meetings (in-person and videoconference); preparing agendas and supporting materials, including meeting minutes; taking notes during meetings and facilitating action items; and communicating with relevant parties as needed
- Provide litigation support by organizing and preserving exhibits admitted into evidence during a hearing; drafting motions and letters; communicating with parties and commission members; scheduling hearings; coordinating travel arrangements; preparing courtroom for hearing;
- Assist in tracking deadlines and ensuring compliance with court rules;
- Organize, gather, respond to correspondence;
- Be proficient in typing and in Microsoft programs such as word and excel;
Non-Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research on Lexis Advance;
- Perform criminal record checks and background checks;
- Assist with research projects; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Education, Experience and Skills:
- College degree preferred; paralegal certificate desired
- Litigation paralegal experience required;
- Knowledge of court system and procedures, legal terminology, and civil procedure
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills along with excellent proofreading and formatting skills
- Desire to work as part of a team
- Ability to review a variety of written material and summarize key information accurately and efficiently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work well under deadlines, and multi-task
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
Working Conditions:
- Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, one hour lunch break
- This position is in-office, presence will be required for hearings, trials, and other times.
