Wright, Constable & Skeen, L.L.P. is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Litigation Secretary to support attorneys in our Commercial Litigation practice group. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to anticipate the needs of a busy legal team. This role involves managing daily administrative operations, preparing and filing legal documents, coordinating schedules, and ensuring deadlines are met.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily correspondence, including answering and directing phone calls, responding to emails, communicating with opposing counsel and courts, and maintaining attorney calendars.
- Track and monitor deadlines; provide timely reminders to attorneys regarding upcoming filings, hearings, and commitments.
- Maintain electronic and paper client files, discovery files, and administrative records in accordance with firm policies.
- Prepare, revise, proofread, and format litigation documents including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, discovery responses, briefs, and correspondence.
- Assist with electronic filing in state and federal courts and coordinate service of pleadings and other documents.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, depositions, court appearances, and travel arrangements; interface with outside vendors, clerks, and service providers.
- Enter attorney time and collaborate with assigned timekeepers and billing personnel on monthly billing, draft invoices, and client submissions.
- Conduct limited legal research with attorney oversight.
- Assist with document management and e-discovery, including organization of databases and production sets.
- Support client intake and engagement, including preparation of engagement letters, conflict checks, and waiver forms.
Qualifications
- 2–3+ years of litigation experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary in a law firm environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with database-driven software; experience with legal practice management, docketing programs, and state/federal e-filing systems.
- Strong understanding of legal terminology, litigation procedures, and court rules.
- Experience with billing processes and time entry.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to responsive client service.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience, range from $55,000 – $65,000
