Barista Job Description

Job Title: Coffee Barista

Company: Fire Island / Little Sister

Open Monday-Sunday 7am-4pm

Schedule:

Full time - 8 hr shifts between 5:30am-6:30pm

Part time: 4-8 hr shifts, 2-4 days a week

Location: 2520 East 16th Ave, inside Fire Island Bakery

Compensation: DOE, starting at $15+ tips (paycheck)

A successful candidate will:

• Be trained or experienced in coffee making using an espresso machine
• Be able to communicate easily with coworkers, leads, and managers
• Be a quick learner and engaged trainee
• Be able to learn and assess issues in coffee production
• Deliver excellent customer service
• Demonstrate high attention to detail, level of care
• Take direction well, can receive/give constructive feedback
• Be able to work independently and cooperatively
• Enjoy working on a team to create high-quality products
• Learn about Fire Island Bakery products and systems

Role summary:

This position is fast paced and you will be on your feet most of the shift, walking back and forth around the coffee bar and into the bakery and around the property. You must be able to keep up, keep pace, lift 40-50 pounds. Little Sister is a new arm of Fire Island Bakery, but rests on the ethos and systems long proven and maintained by everyone in the Fire Island Bakery.

Candidates will need to be able to check to ensure that all coffee is excellently produced, presented, served, and displayed in a manner consistent with Fire Islands standards. Candidates must have an attention to detail, checking that the entire Little Sister space is upheld with intention and in accordance with Fire Island’s level of excellence.

Little Sister /Fire Island follow all principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment, ensuring health code and OSHA safety standards are met. Little Sister/Fire Island are aiming to facilitate the very cleanest and safest kitchen in the state.

The barista’s primary responsibility is to ensure guest delight by providing an exceptional experience that makes our guests want to return again and again. Basic duties include taking coffee orders, answering questions about our food and beverage options, accepting payments, and curating the space. Another essential function is to advocate for the guest and give your best service 100% of the time. This is an hourly position with tips pooled company wide.

-$15-17/hr plus tips
