We’re looking for a live blog writer/editor to join our expanding team of diverse journalists committed to engaging digital audiences. Based in Washington, D.C., this role offers mentorship and hands-on experience in one of AP’s key bureaus. It’s an ideal opportunity for an early career journalist eager to build skills, gain newsroom experience and grow in a supportive, fast-paced environment. This is a staff position covered by AP’s agreement with the News Media Guild.
Responsibilities: As a journalist working on live blogs, you'll play a pivotal role in creating real-time news content for online platforms and guiding news consumers to APNews.com. Reporting to the news editor for live blogs, you will prioritize the creation of live blog content that resonates with online audiences, ensuring it is informative, visually appealing and engaging. You also will assist with coordination from major events, breaking news, awards shows, political speeches and daily news updates.

This position is covered by The Associated Press’ contract with the News Media Guild, which provides for an annual salary for Class A staff of between $53,477 and $85,214 based on location and years of professional experience. Additional compensation is negotiable based on a job candidate’s skills, qualifications and market location. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan and employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
