Live-In Household Manager / Family Assistant (Chef-Focused)

Overview

We are seeking a highly capable, proactive, and organized Household Manager to oversee the daily operations of a private home in Carlsbad, CA.

This role combines house management, childcare, and healthy meal preparation, with a strong emphasis on cooking and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen and home.

Household Environment

• Two children (ages 3 and 6) — in home ~50% of the time (Sunday-Wednesday)
• Adults in home: homeowner (father), girlfriend, and roommate/colleague (business partner)
• Pets: 2 cats + 4 backyard chickens

Primary Responsibilities Meal Preparation (High Priority)

• Prepare healthy, home-cooked meals (minimum 4 dinners/week)
• Cook breakfast when children are present
• Meal prep for the week as needed
• Grocery shopping and kitchen organization

Kitchen & Dish Management (100% Responsibility)

• Responsible for ALL dishes in the household
• Includes dishes from:
• Daily meals
• Cooking and prep
• Household use throughout the day
• Maintain a clean, fully reset kitchen at all times
• Load/unload dishwasher and hand wash items as needed
• Ensure counters, sink, and cooking areas are always clean and organized

Childcare Support (Part-Time / As Needed)

• Morning routine:
• Prepare breakfast
• Get children ready for school
• Pack lunches
• School pickup when needed
• Occasional babysitting
• Assist with baths and bedtime routines when needed

Household Management

• Daily tidying and organization of the home
• Laundry (wash, fold, and put away)
• Make beds and maintain clean living spaces
• Housekeeping
• Keep children’s areas clean and organized

Home & Property Care

• Feed cats daily
• Feed and water chickens
• Light backyard upkeep (tidying, basic care)
• Proactively manage household needs (supplies, organization, etc.)

What We’re Looking For

• Strong cooking skills (healthy meals required)
• Comfortable taking full ownership of kitchen and cleaning responsibilities
• Prior experience as a nanny, house manager, or family assistant
• Highly organized and self-motivated
• Takes initiative - does not need to be managed
• Comfortable around children and pets
• Trustworthy and dependable

Living Arrangement

• Private room/full bath provided
• Utilities included
• Meals included

Compensation

• $3,000–$4,000/month (depending on experience)
• Free housing
