POSITION TITLE: Loan Officer II

POSTION LOCATION: Main Branch

REPORTS TO: Director of Lending

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

DATE: 06/04/2026

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general supervision, provide and promote lending products and services to MCU’s members. Responsible for operating within established credit union lending policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Serve as loan officer of credit union: Authority to approve consumer loans; Part of mortgage loan approval committee

2. May be responsible for training of new loan officers. Will provide assistance or guidance to less senior loan officers

3. Responsible for organization of loan granting process including loans applied for in-person, over-the-phone, and electronically

  • Interview loan applicants
  • Review and research loan applications
  • Order and review credit bureau reports
  • Employment verification
  • Order and review title searches
  • Calculate debt ratio
  • Complete and process loan documents
  • Close loans

4. When a loan is denied, explain reasons for denial in a professional, courteous manner. Work with member to provide recommendations or alternative options for other possible ways to secure a loan in the future

5. Perform audit of consumer loan files to ensure quality and that lending policies are followed

6. Serve as mortgage loan contact and coordinator for member:

  • Coordinate approvals with closing date
  • Timely filing of mortgage with proper recording agent
  • Follow up of mortgage files for proper post-closing documentation
  • Monthly loan reports

7. Review developing laws and regulations as they apply to installment-loan security agreements

8. As a member of the lending team, you will support:

  • tracking all HELOC draw periods and maturities
  • verification of paid real estate taxes on all in-house 1st Mortgage Loans
  • completion of weekly “Paid Loan” reports including: notifying member of paid loan with proper notice, releasing any security, and distribution of payroll deductions
  • completion of periodic consumer and mortgage loan rate survey for review with management monthly
  • implementation of new loan products and services in accordance with management direction
  • cross-selling lending and other credit union products

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

1. Assist with inventory and ordering of loan department supplies and forms

2. Serve as notary public or able to be bonded as a notary public

3. Assist in all areas as needed

SPECIAL FUNCTIONS: May be individually assigned through goal setting

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma
  • 2-5 years of experience in consumer lending or a related field
  • debt counseling
  • collections experience
  • experience with electronic documents/signature platforms
  • good oral and written communication skills (rapport)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES DESIRED:

  • College degree in Finance or Business-related field
  • mortgage lending and/or processing experience
  • some accounting experience
  • competencies with Excel functions and formulas
  • Spanish-speaking (both written and conversational)

Pay: $25.00 - $28.25 per hour
