SendIt is placing a Board Eligible or Board Certified Emergency Medicine physician for a locum tenens engagement in Santa Fe, New Mexico, beginning May 2026. This is a well-supported emergency department with a reasonable volume, strong APP coverage, and competitive compensation starting at $330/hour — with flexibility upward depending on experience.

Department Snapshot

  • ~26,000 annual ED visits
  • 30 ED beds with a dedicated Fast Track unit
  • Physician coverage: 33 hours/day
  • APP support: 18 hours/day
  • Admit rate: ~10%

This is a manageable, well-run department — not a high-acuity trauma grind. Great fit for a physician who wants a quality assignment in one of the Southwest's most desirable cities.

Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
  • Active New Mexico medical license (required)
  • Current DEA, BLS, and ACLS

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive emergency medical assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for patients presenting with acute illnesses or injuries.
  • Perform advanced procedures including airway management, suturing, and basic life support to stabilize patients promptly.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic to document patient encounters accurately and efficiently.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests including medical imaging (CT scans, radiology) and laboratory results to guide clinical decision-making.
  • Collaborate with specialists in fields such as cardiology, neurology, psychiatry, and pediatrics for complex cases requiring multidisciplinary input.
  • Manage triage processes to prioritize patient care based on severity and acuity levels within the emergency department.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital protocols while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.

Skills

  • Extensive experience working in emergency room settings or Level I/II trauma centers with proficiency in acute care procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and clinical evaluation techniques essential for rapid diagnosis.
  • Skilled in using EMR systems like Epic for documentation, order entry, and patient tracking.
  • Proficiency in interpreting medical imaging such as CT scans and radiographs; familiarity with diagnostic radiology is a plus.
  • Ability to perform airway management, suturing, IV infusion, and wound care confidently under pressure.
  • Experience with pediatric neuropsychology, neonatology ventilators, or neonatal ventilator management is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of hospital protocols including discharge planning, infection control, CPT coding, and post-operative care procedures.
