Summary of Job Duties
Responsible for large-scale, end-to-end import and cross-border logistics operations in the region, managing a monthly volume of 100+ containers (TEU). This role focuses on import/export customs clearance, port operations, and container land transportation. The candidate will work closely with local sales teams and major clients to develop cost-effective bulk logistics solutions.
Main Responsibilities
1. Large-Scale Import/Export & Port Operations

Manage high-volume destination port arrivals, customs declarations, clearance, and container trucking to ensure smooth and timely turnover of 100+ containers monthly.

Monitor shipping schedules, yard status, and port dynamics in real-time; coordinate resolution of customs inspections and holds to minimize delays.
2. Shipping Line Negotiation & Freight Management

Maintain direct relationships with shipping lines and carriers; negotiate fee waivers (Demurrage/Detention) and capacity allocation as needed.

Optimize inland container transportation routes and fleet arrangements to reduce delays, cargo damage, and refusal risks.
3. Commercial Support & Client Coordination

Engage early in major sales deals and projects to provide logistics solutions, cost estimations, and delivery commitments.

Liaise directly with key distributors and VIP clients; coordinate logistics milestones and resolve complex delivery issues in a timely manner.
4. Local Resource Network & Cost Control

Develop and manage a local vendor network (trucking fleets, customs brokers, forwarders, bonded yards) across the MEA region; maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs policies and port regulations.

Oversee the regional bulk logistics budget; identify and implement cost reduction opportunities across port, clearance, and trucking operations through vendor negotiation.
5. Compliance & Standardization

Ensure trade compliance and manage customs risks; develop standardized SOPs and contingency plans for scenarios such as customs holds or shipping line disputes.
Qualifications
1. Background & Experience
-
8+ years of hands-on logistics management experience in the MEA region, preferably within major distribution, trading, or retail organizations.

Demonstrated experience managing a monthly volume of 100+ containers, with strong expertise in full container load (FCL) import/export processes.

Bachelor's degree or above in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related field.

Candidates with combined experience across both Africa and the Middle East are strongly encouraged to apply.

Proven experience in direct negotiations with major shipping lines /forwarders on matters including space allocation, demurrage/detention waivers, and delay claims.

Fluent in English (spoken and written), with the ability to conduct high-stakes business negotiations.
