Job Summary: Temporary Long Term Substitute Learning Services (Special Education) High School Teacher100% FTE from January 20, 2026 through February 13, 2026The role of a Learning Services (Sped) Teacher is to provide instruction and support to students that are in need of learning services in our Elementary School. They must also act as a liaison to the students primary teachers and other support staff. Reports to: Director of Student Services Special Education CoordinatorGeneral ResponsibilitiesSupport the diversity of the student population through cultural and family engagement and the inclusion of diverse learners throughout the school.Support the philosophy and mission of the school.Demonstrate sound knowledge of students learning style, curriculum modification, differentiated instruction, and universal design for learning.Work collaboratively with colleagues to see all students as part of a single team and values the importance of cultivation of school culture and respectful interactions.Professional ExpectationsWorks towards self-improvement and advancement.Meets all requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding credentials for teachers of students with disabilities in Massachusetts public charter schools.Learning Services (LS) teachers are expected to meet the professional expectations as outlined in the Personnel policy and appointment letter.Learning Services teachers are expected to review, understand, and implement the Learning Services Policy and Procedure manual. Professional Duties and ResponsibilitiesAttendance is expected as requested of the following: Faculty meetingsLevel/department meetingsIEP/504 meetingsParent teacher conferencesSchool sponsored professional developmentLS teachers are expected to engage in other supervisory duties as requested by the Coordinator or Administrative Team.LS teachers aid in the supervision of students at all times.Responsibilities as a Learning Services LiaisonThe learning services department at South Shore Charter School is committed to provide the best possible educational environment for all students.

As a policy, each child on an Individual Education Program is assigned a Learning Services (LS) Liaison. Below is a list of the responsibilities of a LS Liaison: Share and review the current IEP with any general education teachers, teachers of specials or any other educational personnel that work with the student. Provide updates to current IEP as needed. Act as a point person for other educational personnel to go to for questions and concerns.

Chair annual review team meetings for students.Complete any educational testing for students.Attend three-year reevaluation meetings and assist School Psychologist or Director of Student Services in chairing the meeting.Inputting IEPs, and all supporting documentation. Monitoring the completion of goals and additional information inputted by other service providers.Share the responsibility with the Director of Student Services in providing guidance to 1:1 aides. Liaison will guide the aide in terms of what they should be doing in class (i.e., data collection, behavior plans, academic support)Monitor implementation of IEP. This includes: Checking regularly that students are receiving necessary accommodations & modifications.Work with other LS providers to monitor use of technology or tools outlined in students IEP.Keep data to accurately respond to a student's goals.Complete progress reports.Communicate with parents of students as needed.

This includes but is not limited to: Weekly check-ins (per IEP). Responding to questions or concerns.Daily behavior or communication logs (per IEP). Monitoring progress of students grades. Keeping track of how they are doing academically and behaviorally.
