BASIC FUNCTION:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of journeyman level maintenance work in Low Voltage installations, fire alarms, security systems, communication systems, school bell systems, multimedia equipment and other related machines and equipment which are energy limited to 91 volts as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS – Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

● Performs skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair to fire alarms, security systems, communication systems, school bell systems, multimedia equipment in connection with construction and mechanical trades which are energy limited to 91 volts.

● Diagnoses mechanical and electrical difficulties and/or malfunctions and determines appropriate repair procedures and makes repairs.

● Makes routine and emergency repairs and adjustments for electrical needs.

● Coordinates work with contractors, architects, and vendors.

● Operates vehicles and equipment as necessary to perform the duties of this position.

● Prepares schedules, records and reports as required.

● Inspects alarms, phones, lighting circuits, and other types of electric and power equipment which are energy limited to 91 volts.

● Identifies, orders, keeps inventory control, and maintains adequate supply parts at all times.

● May wire and rewire computer networks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

● Use and maintenance of electronic test equipment;

● Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the general electric/electronic repair trade;

● Repair of electronic equipment including fire alarms, security systems, communication systems, school bells systems and multimedia equipment which are energy limited to 91 volts;

● Principles of operation and use of electric/electronic equipment, school bell and communication systems, and access control integration which are energy limited to 91 volts;

● Basic math;

● General safety procedures and practices relating to the building trades, working with electricity and electronics, and of equipment and tools.

● Hazmat and safety regulations.

Ability to:

● Work with minimum supervision;

● Communicate effectively;

● Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;

● Understand and follow oral and written directions;

● Read and interpret handwritten or typed documents, instructions, display screen, working

repair manuals, drawings, plans, schematics and blueprints;

● Estimate time and materials needed to complete the job;

● Adapt and proficiently use available hand and power tools and shop equipment related to

the electrical trade;

● Locate and repair defects in electric/electronic equipment;

● Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work;

● Work independently and maintain high standards of workmanship;

● Keep work records and make reports;

● Stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk;

● Climb slopes, stairs, steps, and ladders;

● Lift, carry (up to 50 pounds), push and pull heavy (up to 100 pounds) objects;

● Accomplish tasks at various elevated heights in a safe and effective manner;

● Accomplish tasks in restricted spaces in a safe and effective manner;

● Demonstrate manual dexterity, and steadiness and stability of hand movement necessary

to perform fine maintenance procedures in a safe and effective manner;

● Operate a variety of industrial or motor vehicles, equipment and tools associated with

building repair, maintenance, preventive maintenance and construction trades in a safe

and effective manner;

● Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.

EDUCATION, LICENSES & EXPERIENCE:

● High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by additional training and/or trade

school in areas appropriate to this classification.

● Four years of skilled maintenance work specializing in Low Voltage electrical work,

including two years at the journeyman level (supporting documentation may be required).

● Must possess a valid, appropriate California Driver’s License.

Working conditions:

● Outside environment.

● Subject to adverse weather conditions.

● Subject to noise from equipment and tools.

● Regular exposure to heat, cold, dust, odors, chemicals, pollen and dirt.

● Ability to work around plants, shrubs, and ground covers.

Salary: Grade 24

Overtime Status: Non-Exempt
