Position Overview

Grandview Preparatory School seeks a dynamic, innovative Lower School Science Teacher to lead a science program that connects with the inquiry units in the lower school classrooms. The ideal candidate will design and implement hands-on, inquiry-driven learning experiences, in collaboration with the classroom teachers, that spark curiosity and help students develop foundational scientific understanding and habits of mind.

This educator will collaborate with the Lower School team to integrate science with other disciplines and connect classroom learning to authentic, real-world applications. The role includes stewardship of the science lab and outdoor learning spaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and teach engaging, developmentally appropriate science lessons for grades K–5.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports curiosity, risk-taking, and problem-solving.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive science curriculum aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Grandview’s experiential learning philosophy.
  • Incorporate hands-on experiments, outdoor exploration, and project-based learning experiences for each grade level.
  • Differentiate instruction to support varied learning styles, abilities, and interests, ensuring that every student feels successful and challenged.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teachers to connect science to interdisciplinary projects and school-wide themes.
  • Manage classroom materials, lab equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom experiences.
  • Participate in professional learning, faculty meetings, and community events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science Education, Elementary Education, or a related field
  • Experience teaching science in elementary grades.
  • Deep understanding of inquiry-based and experiential learning approaches.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for inspiring young learners to see themselves as scientists and problem solvers.
  • Experience developing cross-curricular or project-based units.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working in a collaborative school environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
