The Steward School is seeking a Lower School/Middle School Physical Education Teacher for grades JK through 8th for the academic year 2026-2027. The P.E. educator is the primary instructional delivery person for students’ health and wellness, fitness, and growth. The position is demanding, varied, and complex. The educator must be collaborative, a relationship builder, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be well-trained in P.E. content knowledge, and effective and engaging teaching strategies for students in grades JK-8. This is a full-time, benefited position reporting to the Lower School and Middle School Division Directors.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching students in Lower and Middle School.
- Demonstrate the ability to create a child-centered classroom.
- Facilitate children’s physical, cognitive, and social and emotional learning through lessons designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to their ability and confidence levels.
- Provide engaging, fun, and effective instruction that helps build a health and wellness foundation for children.
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness and health education utilizing curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
- Provide maximum participation for all students; differentiate as needed to ensure all students experience success.
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Provide ongoing formative feedback to students.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset individually and support this development with all students.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive, and safe environment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluate fitness and social and emotional growth of students, prepare thoughtful report card comments, and keep appropriate records as necessary.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, parents, community members, and partners to improve the instructional program and student success.
- Effectively use technology to support effective instruction and student learning.
- Communicate with parents and team members on student progress.
- Attend faculty meetings.
- Update curriculum maps.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Supervision at lunch, recess, carpool, and study hall.
Qualification and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or related field.
- PE teaching experience.
- First aid & CPR, team player.
- Strong communicator (both written and oral).
- A professional who understands the importance of deadlines.
