LPN (Correctional)

Job Summary
Join our dedicated healthcare team as a Licensed Practical Nurse (Correctional). In this vital role, you will provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care within a correctional facility, ensuring the health and safety of inmates while maintaining compliance with healthcare standards. Your expertise will support the delivery of comprehensive medical services, including assessments, treatments, and health education, in a dynamic and challenging environment. Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories to determine medical needs.
  • Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and treatments following prescribed protocols while adhering to HIPAA regulations and safety standards.
  • Monitor patients for signs of acute pain, infectious diseases, or other health concerns; respond promptly with appropriate interventions.
  • Assist with diagnostic evaluations such as specimen collection, processing, and basic medical imaging procedures.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner; ensure compliance with medical documentation standards.
  • Manage emergency situations effectively by airway management, ventilator support, or triage procedures within the correctional setting.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate discharge planning, case management, and ongoing care for individuals with complex needs such as dementia or developmental disabilities.

Skills

  • Proven experience working in correctional facilities or similar high-security environments with a focus on patient care.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and anatomy relevant to adult and geriatric populations.
  • Skilled in medication administration, IV insertion/infusion techniques, venipuncture, catheter care, and sterile processing.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
  • Ability to perform patient assessments including vital signs monitoring and physical examinations efficiently.
  • Experience managing acute pain cases, infectious disease protocols, hospice care considerations, and trauma response (Level I & II trauma center experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-9 & ICD-10), CPT coding for procedures like suturing or spinal taps is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex medical information clearly.
