DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Nurse Manager works in conjunction with the LSU Program/Medical Director and the Primary Care Administrator in various capacities; performing functions related to administrative management and support within the department, running the LSU Clinic with adherence to JCAHO guidelines. The Nurse Manager must demonstrate mature judgment, maintain confidentiality, the ability to gather and interpret data and prioritize information regarding the Family Medicine Clinic and Family Medicine Residency Program.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Practice Director

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Manages time and attendance records of clinical staff. Approves time for clinical staff.
  • Sets laboratory protocol and standards for LSU Family Medicine Clinic. Works closely with LCMH Laboratory.
  • Sets and maintains inventory control for all clinical supplies and medications. Orders supplies and medications per LCMH protocol.
  • Sets procedural protocol and standards for all procedures performed in the LSU Residency Clinic.
  • Knowledgeable of and actively participates and implements Performance Improvement Plan for LSU Residency Program.
  • Assists LSU Medical Program Director as needed.
  • Assists with billing issues related to clinical issues for LCMH and LSU Family Medicine Clinic.
  • Assists LSU Medical Program Director as needed.
  • Assists with implementation of research programs.
  • Responsible for annual fire and disaster drills. Documents and coordinates with LCMH.
  • Extensive knowledge of EMR system. Trouble shoots and helps resolve all issues.
  • Uses EMR to fullest capacity to track and maintain electronic health records.
  • Reports are utilized for maintenance accreditation and on-going audits and attestations.
  • Trains clinic staff and residents on correct usage of EMR and electronic prescribing.

  • Extensive knowledge of EMR system. Trouble shoots and helps resolve all issues.
  • Uses EMR to fullest capacity to track and maintain electronic health records.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance in conjunction with LCMH Bio-Med team. Turns in monthly safety checklist to LCMH Plant Operations monthly.
  • Responsible for monthly medication safety sheets and reports this to LCMH Pharmacy on a monthly basis.
  • Manages Quality Improvement and Assurance to provide continuous quality improvements for patient care. Participates in monthly team meetings and is responsible for daily structured communication process (daily huddles).
  • Coordinates mandatory LCMH in-services for staff and residents.
  • Provide guidance for residents regarding clinical aspects of patient care.
  • Kid-Med program. Complies with program, monitors vaccines and orders vaccines to maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Researches incidents, including patient complaints.
  • Helps to resolve these issues with patients and staff.
  • Works in collaboration with LSU Family Medicine Office Manager.
  • Responsible for quality insurance programs including, but not limited to, GSQN, and Medicare.
  • Active contributing member of faculty, PEC, APE, and CCC committees. Attends all meetings.
  • Management of patient care and nursing/clinical personnel.
  • Responsible for clinical staffing and oversite of LSU Family Medicine Clinic and Residency Program clinical requirements. This includes tracking of licenses and required certifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring on-going education of clinical staff.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Licensed Registered Nurse
  • Preferred experience with residency programs.
  • Competent, Planner, Punctual, Organizes/Integrates, Supports Staff, Manages Conflict, Problem Resolution, Monitors Resident Documentation, Honors Others, Monitors Evaluation Compliance, Practices Professionalism, Maintains Confidentiality, Provides Training.
  • A spirit of cooperation, support, and understanding for working with the faculty, chief residents, residents, and staff.
  • A willingness to interact with hospital administration and other departments to carry out the mission of the program.
  • Enthusiasm for the academic and educational environment of residency training.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as have the ability to quickly learn various required software.
  • Must have superior interpersonal, professional, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Must be a well organized, self starter, exhibiting a high degree of professionalism and the ability to plan and meet deadlines as required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times..

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
  • Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
