LTE Medical Examiner

Job Summary:
Juneau County is seeking a dedicated part‑time, on‑call Medicolegal Death Investigator to conduct thorough, independent death investigations in accordance with Wisconsin State Statutes. In this role, you will respond to death scenes, examine evidence, interview witnesses, collect medical and social history, and determine whether cases fall under the jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner’s Office. Responsibilities include scene assessment, evidence collection, body removal and transport, completing legally required documentation, and communicating professionally and compassionately with families, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and the District Attorney’s Office. This position requires strong critical‑thinking skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage detailed case files using appropriate software and established procedures.

About the Role:
This part‑time, on‑call position operates in a fast‑paced environment that may involve navigating inclement weather, hazardous scenes, biohazards, and emotionally challenging circumstances. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational skills, professionalism, and adherence to Federal, State, and County laws and policies. Minimum qualifications include a two‑year post‑high school education in a relevant medical or scientific field (or CNA/PCW with verifiable experience), a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, and the ability to pass a criminal background check. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, ABMDI certification or progress toward certification, and completion of a 40‑hour death investigation course.
