Lexikeet seeks to recruit additional Luganda <> English linguists. We have a strong preference towards those with document translation experience and who can work in both directions. This is an independent contractor, work-from-home position. The linguist would be responsible for servicing scheduled and on-demand video interpretation (VRI) and phone interpretation (OPI) calls on an as-needed basis. The contractor may be asked to do language assessments of other Luganda speakers as well. If candidate possesses experience translating documents they would also be able to service document translations, proofreading and/or formatting on an as-needed basis. An appropriate candidate MUST have a strong, fast, and reliable internet connection, a private and well lit place to work that is private and free of distractions.

For translation, good command of Microsoft Word and experience working with PDF documents are a MUST, including converting them to Word (.docx) format and editing PDFs directly.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interpreting

- Video Interpretation: interpreting verbal Luganda <-> verbal English via our online video interpretation system (previous interpretation experience preferred, however we will provide on-the-job training)

- Phone Interpretation: interpreting verbal Luganda <-> verbal English via contractor's personal phone (previous interpretation experience preferred, however we will provide on-the-job training)

Translation

- Translating English documents into written Luganda and vice versa via Lexikeet's online system (previous translation experience preferred, however we will provide on-the-job training).

- Proofreading and editing already completed translations in Luganda<>English.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

- Luganda fluency and literacy.

- High English fluency and literacy.

- Strong digital literacy.

- Committed to being on-time for all assignments.

- Self-motivated & self-organized.

- Quiet home environment (this is a work-from-home position)

Pay:

Interpreting

Scheduled OPI/VRI: $0.45/min (30 min minimum + 15 min increments thereafter).

On-Demand OPI/VRI: $0.55/min (15 min minimum + 1 min increments thereafter).

Simultaneous Live Streaming Interpretation (RSI): $0.84/min (60 min minimum + 15 minute increments thereafter).

Translation

Per Word: $0.08/word (50 word minimum)

Per Page: $40/page (1 page minimum)
