Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosis and repair: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and repair or replace faulty components and systems.
- Installation: Install new equipment, ensuring it meets all safety and performance standards.
- Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of machinery to identify potential issues and perform tests to check functionality.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate and updated records of all maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Inventory management: Monitor and manage the inventory of spare parts to ensure sufficient availability.
- Safety compliance: Ensure all machinery operates in compliance with safety standards and utilize personal protective equipment.
- Collaboration: Work with other departments, such as production or engineering, to schedule maintenance and troubleshoot problems.
- Communication: Explain repair needs and estimates to customers or supervisors.
Qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma is often required, sometimes supplemented with a diploma, certificate, or degree in a related technical field.
- Experience: Previous experience as a mechanic, often in a specific field like industrial or construction machinery, is typically necessary.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics is important.
- Mechanical aptitude: A strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems is essential.
- Physical ability: The job may require physical stamina, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift heavy objects and work in various environmental conditions.
- Soft skills: Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills are beneficial.
