Machine Operator (Plasma Cutting Operator)

Location: Houston, TX 77021
Day & Night Shifts Available
Pay: $17.00 - $25.00/hour DOE
Night Shift Premium: Additional 10% Shift Differential

We are currently seeking experienced Machine Operators to support fabrication and manufacturing operations in Houston. This position is ideal for candidates with experience operating plasma cutters, CNC equipment, lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other industrial machinery in a fabrication environment.

Position Overview

The Machine Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating fabrication and manufacturing equipment while maintaining production quality, accuracy, and safety standards. This role supports both structural and piping fabrication operations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Operate manufacturing equipment including plasma cutters, laser cutters, grinders, saws, lathes, milling machines, robotic welders, and CNC machinery

  • Load CNC programs and adjust machine settings as needed

  • Read and interpret blueprints, cut lists, and work orders

  • Measure materials accurately and monitor cut quality

  • Perform basic nesting and material layout to maximize efficiency

  • Troubleshoot equipment and production issues

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and inspections

  • Operate overhead cranes safely and efficiently

  • Maintain production records and machine documentation

  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S standards

  • Follow OSHA regulations and all company safety policies

  • Participate in safety meetings and training

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of fabrication or manufacturing experience

  • Experience operating plasma cutters, CNC equipment, lathes, milling machines, grinders, or similar machinery

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

  • Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory tracking

  • Ability to accurately measure materials using tape measures, rulers, and calipers

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • English proficiency (written and verbal) required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift Certification

  • Overhead Crane Certification

  • Machine Operation Certification or vocational training

  • Experience with lean manufacturing practices

  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Technical or vocational training preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Work in a non-climate-controlled fabrication shop environment

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 12-hour shifts

  • Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required

  • Ability to safely climb ladders and stairs

  • Must wear required PPE including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and hearing protection
