Machine Operator I

Position Overview

The Machine Operator I is responsible for setting up, operating, loading and unloading various machines/ equipment to manufacture metal products in accordance with product specifications.

Essential Job Functions

The job duties listed below are the fundamental job duties of this position. Failure to perform any one of these duties would substantially alter the nature of the position.

• Proficiently operates at least one machine in the assigned area
• Cross trains on other machines in assigned area
• Basic understanding of the machines in assigned area
• Effectively set up machines to start a production cycle
• Load and feed metal stock and other materials into manual or automatic machines
• Monitors gauges as required to ensure quality work
• Verify end parts are consistent with blue print specifications
• Accurately label all parts for routing to next operation
• Perform prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required
• Escalates equipment or quality issues
• Monitor the production board and internal paperwork to perform tasks in the designated sequence
• Enter job data in production tracking system
• Meet and maintain quality standards
• Maintains area cleanliness and completed 5S checklists
• Material handles for assigned area as required
• Ability to work with others as part of a high-performance team
• Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
• Ensure use of safe work procedures and wear all required PPE
• Perform work at the appropriate pace to maintain quality and productivity requirements
• Follow company policies in relation to safety, cleanliness, attendance etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Ability to perform basic shop math functions
• Ability to use forklift, hoist, crane and other handling equipment
• Ability to operate various power and hand tools
• Ability to use various measuring devices
• Ability to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require adequate grip strength, finger manipulation, and/or foot motion to handle tools, product, equipment and/or controls on a regular basis. Generally, the job requires standing, walking, and balancing on a continuous basis. Additionally, the employee may be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional to frequent basis depending on work assignment. The employee may be required to push and pull up to 75 pounds on an occasional to frequent basis depending on work assignment. The employee may be required to repetitively bend and/or reach forward to perform tasks, as well as occasionally perform tasks at knee level. The employee may perform overhead work requiring light resistance depending on work assignment. Based on work assignment, occasional climbing may necessary to complete tasks.

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with others. The noise level in the production environment is loud, consistent with normal shop conditions. The nature of the job is working with and around machinery and equipment. The employee may be exposed to cut and puncture hazards, congested work areas, temperature variations, glare, and chemicals necessary to perform the role. For these reasons personal protective equipment is required. This role requires near and far vision, tactical, hearing, speech, and spatial perception abilities.
