Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Machine Shop Manager to oversee our machining operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing and machining processes, along with excellent leadership abilities. This role is crucial for ensuring that our production meets quality standards while maintaining efficiency and safety in the shop.
Duties
- Manage daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring productivity and quality standards are met.
- Supervise and train machine shop staff, promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, and other machining equipment.
- Utilize blueprint reading skills to interpret technical drawings and specifications for production.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow and reduce waste.
- Conduct quality control checks using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on CAM programming and tooling requirements for new projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean working environment.
- Manage inventory levels of materials and tools, coordinating with warehouse staff as necessary.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues with machinery and oversee repairs as needed.
Experience
- Proven experience in a machine shop environment with a strong understanding of machining processes including MIG welding, fabrication, assembly, and welding techniques.
- Proficiency in CNC programming, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and the use of SolidWorks for design purposes.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and press brake machines is preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, and various machining equipment.
- Basic math skills are essential for measurements and calculations related to production tasks.
- Previous experience in quality control processes within a manufacturing setting is highly desirable.
