Machine Shop Shift Supervisor

Overview
Learn to work to strict safety and quality requirements, help to achieve daily production requirements in terms of quality and quantity, optimizing efficiency and maintaining operational excellence.

· Machinists in the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering sector are predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex, and precision work, machining components from specialist materials using conventional and/or CNC machine tools such as centre lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, horizontal and cylindrical grinding machines, electro discharge machines, single and multi-axis CNC machine tool centres.

· They must be able to use and interpret engineering data and documentation such as engineering drawings, technical data, and computer-generated programmes.

· Expected to be able to set up, operate and adjust/edit equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used.

· During and on completion of the machining operations be expected to measure and check the components being produced and adjust the equipment/programme to ensure components meet the required specification.

· Able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work they undertake.

· Be proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas for improving the business.

· Undertake other tasks within capabilities as may be requested from time to time by the Machine Shop Manager

EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS PREFERRED:

1. Experience

· Previous experience in similar industry

· Experience of people management

· Experience of the manufacturing processes in the area of responsibility

· Experience of working in unionised environments

2. Qualifications

· Apprenticeship in manufacturing or engineering discipline

· Qualification in leadership or management

· IOSH certified.

3. Personal Skills and Abilities

· Good general IT skills

· Good interpersonal skills, particularly team building and leadership

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to compose clear and concise documentation

· Ability to achieve deadlines consistently

· Excellent time management and organisational skills

· Ability to work under own initiative

· Good literacy and numeracy

· Willingness to work shifts and additional hours in order to complete your duties

· Flexible and responsive to the demands of the role

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £15.22 per hour

Expected hours: 38 per week
