Machining Intern
JOB SUMMARY
This internship provides hands on exposure to machining operations under close supervision. The intern supports the execution of work orders while learning setup, production, and basic inspection practices assigned by Shop Supervisor. The role focuses on building foundational skills, understanding shop processes, and contributing to team output while maintaining quality standards. The Machining Intern is required to follow all StoneAge safety guidelines. Continuous Improvement is to be a way of life regarding quality, processes, production, efficiency, work area, and personal growth.
This position reports to the Shop Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This person will:- Assist with assigned work orders under supervision while maintaining quality expectations.
- Support first article inspections with guidance from experienced Machinists or Quality team members.
- Perform basic machine cleaning and assist with daily maintenance and organization of the workspace.
- Maintain accurate records in EPICOR including time tracking, quantities completed, and scrap reporting.
- Collaborate with team members to solve problems and support production needs.
- Operate machines at a basic level on simple parts with supervision.
- Participate in team meetings and shop improvement efforts.
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding progress, questions, and issues.
- Follow all safety guidelines and shop procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Shop Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
A Machining Intern must:- Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Embrace an “Own-it” mentality.
- Show accountability and ownership of assigned tasks.
- Be learning to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Be developing familiarity with measuring tools and inspection methods.
- Gain exposure to manual mills, lathes, drills, and saws.
- Begin learning CNC machine operation with guidance from experienced machinists.
- Demonstrate ability to learn from errors and apply corrective actions.
- Actively engage in training, coursework, or educational requirements associated with the internship.
OTHER INFORMATION
- Machining Intern must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Machining Intern must be able to lift heavy loads using proper lifting techniques as outlined in the StoneAge Employee Handbook
- Some travel may be required.
- Extended working hours may be required.
