Job Title: Machinist

Job Summary
We are hiring a Machinist to perform machining, fabrication support, and workshop maintenance activities to ensure parts are produced accurately according to engineering drawings, specifications, and safety requirements. The role involves operating workshop machinery, measuring finished parts, troubleshooting machining issues, and supporting workshop operations in a safe and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine machining methods and sequence of operations
- Machine parts to required specifications using workshop machinery such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers
- Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure compliance with specifications
- Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools and specialized machining equipment for precision operations
- Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
- Monitor machine speed, feed, lubrication, and temperature during machining activities
- Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for each job
- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock for cutting and machining
- Diagnose machine malfunctions and determine when adjustments or repairs are required
- Maintain workshop machines and equipment using knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures
- Dismantle machines or equipment when needed to inspect and replace defective parts
- Monitor output quality and discard defective workpieces
- Perform routine machine maintenance, minor repairs, cleaning, and lubrication of workshop equipment
- Coordinate with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information
- Follow housekeeping, quality, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
- Perform other workshop-related duties assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of experience in a similar machinist role working with workshop machinery
- Minimum primary school certification
- Vocational training in the mechanical / machinist trade
- Good knowledge of safety laws and workshop regulations
- Good knowledge of fabrication techniques
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, drawings, and manuals
- Knowledge of metal properties and machining materials
- Good problem-solving, numerical, multitasking, and time management skills
- Attention to detail and basic communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience in industrial plant, cement, manufacturing, or heavy workshop environments
- Strong workshop troubleshooting ability and hands-on machine setup experience
- Ability to work independently while maintaining quality and safety standards
