Machinist II Intermediate Setup Operator

FUNCTION: The Machinist II-Intermediate Setup Operator is responsible for the operation of both manual and CNC machines and programming. This role has the opportunity to develop advanced setup skills, lead small projects, and mentor entry level machinists.

REPORTING TO: Shop Foreman

DUTIESRESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate CNC mills and lathes and machine tight tolerances.
  • Perform setups and offsets.
  • Edit and verify Mastercam programs.
  • Load and unload parts.
  • Perform basic inspections.
  • Mentor Level I Machinists.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Follow company safety and quality procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Strength and Stamina: The job may involve lifting and moving parts or materials, typically up to 50lbs. The ability to stand for long periods (8+ hours) is required.

Manual Dexterity: Precise hand movements are necessary for handling tools, making adjustments to machines and operating a computer.

Visual Acuity: Good eyesight, including close vision and depth perception, is important for detailed work and inspecting finished parts.

Mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching is required, along with the ability to maneuver around machinery and equipment.

Coordination: The role requires good hand-eye coordination to operate machines safely and effectively.

Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Machine and fabrication shop environment around equipment such as water jet tables, lathes, milling machines and press brakes. Welding operations are often taking place nearby. This job requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.

QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years of machining experience.
  • Proficient in Mastercam.
  • Experience with HAAS machines.
  • Able to interpret GD&T.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and fixture assistance.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude.

Under applicable DOE orders and client contracts, nonU.S. citizen candidates (including lawful permanent residents) may require an approved DOE Foreign National Visit/Assignment (FNVA) before beginning work or accessing project information. Because this position requires immediate access and project timelines do not accommodate new government approval processing, JFT may be unable to initiate or sponsor new FNVA approval processes or defer start dates pending FNVA approval for this role. Accordingly, hiring and placement into this role is contingent on the candidate's eligibility to access the required information and facilities as of the start date, including having any required government approvals already in place.
