We are looking for an experienced Lead CNC Mill Machinist to oversee and support the milling side of our machine shop. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys machining, mentoring others, solving problems, and helping drive shop efficiency and quality.

Position Summary

The Lead CNC Mill Machinist will be responsible for leading day-to-day operations on the mill side of the shop, including setup support, process improvement, scheduling coordination, troubleshooting, training, and quality oversight. This individual will work closely with management, programmers, machinists, and quality personnel to ensure parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and on time.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to take ownership of a department and help build a strong machining team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support all CNC milling operations within the machine shop
• Perform complex machine setups and assist operators with troubleshooting
• Optimize cycle times, tooling, fixturing, and machining processes
• Train and mentor machinists and apprentices
• Prioritize and coordinate jobs to meet production schedules and customer deadlines
• Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions
• Ensure parts meet quality requirements and inspection standards
• Collaborate with programming and management on process improvements
• Monitor tooling usage and recommend improvements for efficiency and cost savings
• Maintain organized and safe work areas following 5S and shop standards
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and overall shop productivity
• Perform machine maintenance if needed

Qualifications

• 5+ years of CNC milling experience preferred
• Leadership or supervisory experience in a machining environment preferred
• Strong setup and troubleshooting abilities on CNC mills
• Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
• Experience with tight tolerance machining and quality inspections
• Familiarity with tooling, workholding, and machining strategies
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to lead by example and maintain a positive team-oriented attitude
