Job Description
The Target Hiring Range for this position is: $44,757-$48,000
The U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated individual to serve as a Mail Carrier in support of the Senate Post Office’s mission of providing accurate, secure, and professional mail services to the Senate community. In this vital frontline role, the Mail Carrier ensures the accurate sorting, delivery, and retrieval of mail and packages while playing an important part in keeping the Senate community safe by recognizing potentially threatening or suspicious mail and following established safety and security protocols. The Mail Carrier also ensures that time sensitive mailings are delivered promptly and reliably, supporting the daily operations of the Senate.

Key Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties
Sorts incoming mail by Senator, Senate Committee, Senate official or other designated Senate support organizations; gathers and wraps sorted mail into individual bundles for delivery; delivers Congressional Records, House, Senate and Executive Calendars during sessions. Sorts bulk local and commercial carrier packages; prepares packages for distribution. Sorts Congressional Acceptance Site mail and packages; prepares mail and packages for distribution. Collects mail, cartons and postal equipment from offices and retail location; transports mail to the Senate Post Office mail room; processes mail for outside or inside delivery; processes franked mail. Records volumes of outgoing mail by category; digitally records signatures for accountable mail/packages; maintains daily log of receipt of mail/packages. Submits completed time and attendance in an accurate and timely manner; is fully prepared to perform duties at beginning of shift. Other duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
To be employed by a Senate employing office in a paid position in the continental United States an individual must:
1. Be a U.S. citizen;
2. Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B);
3. Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; or
4. Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law).
