Mainframe COBOL Developer

UNIVERSAL Technologies, LLC is seeking an experienced Mainframe Cobol Developer for a hybrid position in Brooklyn, NY to support enterprise application design, development, and enhancement initiatives within a complex mainframe environment. Active LinkedIn preferred. This role is responsible for analyzing business requirements, developing and modifying applications, integrating mainframe and distributed systems, resolving complex design challenges, and supporting ongoing business process improvement efforts through application automation and system optimization.

***3 days on site in Brooklyn, NY is required.

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience developing applications using COBOL for CICS and batch programs.
• Strong experience developing and supporting applications within complex Mainframe environments.
• Superior proficiency with JCL, COBOL, and CICS.
• Experience working with VSAM files and DB2 databases, integrating existing designs with new business requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve complex and conflicting application design issues.
• Ability to quickly understand and support complex mainframe systems.
• Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
• Experience developing applications in IBM VSE Mainframe environments.
• Experience working with stored procedures and SQL Server (MS SQL 2005 or higher).
• Experience utilizing QuikJob utility language.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

• Analyze business requirements and design application solutions to support business process improvement initiatives.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain applications within a Mainframe environment while integrating with distributed systems as required.
• Modify existing applications to improve operational efficiency, system functionality, and business processes.
• Resolve complex and conflicting design issues within enterprise Mainframe applications.
• Execute production data analysis and perform application and data cleanup activities.
• Monitor assigned system processes and ensure reliable application performance.
• Track, document, and report application issues accurately and completely.
• Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot production issues affecting application code modules.
• Escalate risks, issues, and timeline concerns to ensure project deliverables and business objectives are met.
• Support application automation initiatives to streamline business operations and improve system effectiveness.
