Maintenance Aide - H/T

The mission of Gaston County Parks and Recreation is to acquire, develop, maintain, and manage parks; efficiently manage public resources, and provide opportunities for citizens to participate in wholesome leisure activities.

An hourly salary range of $16.88 - $19.62 is anticipated for this position.

THIS IS A HALF-TIME POSITION (

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

• Cleans restrooms, picks up litter, empties trash cans and maintains park equipment.
• Prepares multiple athletic fields for daily use; work consists of using field conditioner to scrape infields, raking and marking lines with athletic paint and chalk.
• Responds to inquiries and assists park visitors.
• Operates various motorized vehicles and power horticulture equipment as needed including mowers, gators, weed eaters, etc.
• Assists with special events in parks as needed; duties include directing cars, setting up tents and stages and other jobs as necessary.
• Performs landscaping duties such as pruning, trimming and removal of trees as needed.
• Daily Maintenance of Splash Pad, including cleaning, inspecting, logging of all chemical levels and filtration.
• Snow removal/wintertime ice melt of walkways at county properties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

Completion of high school or GED equivalency desired. Experience in parks and recreation or building and grounds maintenance preferred. A valid driver’s license, without driving restrictions, is required.

• Must be able to operate a variety of equipment and machinery.
• Must be able to physically perform basic functions such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, feeling, talking and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and might be exposed to heavy amounts of dust.
