Maintenance Head

The Maintenance Head is responsible for planning, leading, and executing all maintenance activities in the food manufacturing plant. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, efficiency, and safety by managing preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance. The position oversees a team of technicians, machinists, electricians, fitters, and external contractors while ensuring compliance with food safety, statutory regulations, and plant engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:1. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance

• Develop and implement Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance plans for all machinery and utilities.
• Ensure timely attending of breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
• Monitor machine performance, identify recurring issues, and resolve root causes.
• Maintain maintenance history, schedules, and documentation.

2. Equipment & Utilities Management

• Oversee maintenance of production equipment: mixers, conveyors, ovens, boilers, chillers, compressors, packaging machines, refrigeration units, and cold rooms.
• Ensure proper functioning of utilities such as water systems, electrical systems, HVAC, generators, and effluent treatment systems.
• Ensure calibration and reliability of critical equipment.

3. Team Leadership & Coordination

• Lead and manage a team of technicians, fitters, electricians, and contractors.
• Allocate daily work, monitor performance, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Conduct training on machine handling, safety, SOPs, and emergency procedures.
• Coordinate closely with production, QC, purchase, and warehouse teams for smooth operations.

4. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with factory rules, statutory maintenance requirements, and safety standards.
• Implement LOTO, machine safety, food safety, and GMP standards during maintenance.
• Ensure safe handling of tools, chemicals, and equipment.
• Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.

5. Engineering Improvements

• Evaluate and implement engineering modifications to improve machine performance.
• Plan shutdown maintenance and major overhauls.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and energy-efficient practices.
• Review new machinery specifications and participate in installation & commissioning.

6. Vendor & Inventory Management

• Manage AMC contracts, service providers, and spare parts vendors.
• Approve purchase requisitions for critical spares and maintenance materials.
• Ensure proper inventory of tools, spares, and lubricants.

7. Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly maintenance reports.
• Maintain breakdown records, PM checklists, and utility consumption details.
• Present maintenance KPIs, downtime analysis, and improvement plans to management.

Skills & Qualifications:

• B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering.
• 15+ years of experience in maintenance roles, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and utility systems.
• Experience in managing maintenance teams and external contractors.
• Good understanding of GMP, HACCP, safety standards, and food industry regulations.
• Excellent troubleshooting, planning, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.

• Ability to handle high-pressure situations and work with cross-functional teams.
• Strong analytical thinking with a focus on preventive mindset.

Salary: based on interview
