JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Maintenance II – Department of Public Works

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

WEATHER/EMERGENCY STATUS: ESSENTIAL

CLASS: 55

JOB SUMMARY:

This position involves the performance of manual tasks and duties for the Department of Public Works, requiring skilled and semi-skilled work or special knowledge acquired through on-the-job training or experience. General supervision is received either written or orally from a supervisor or designated crew/team leader. Work is performed with some independence under the supervision of a foreman who assigns tasks and makes frequent inspections to insure proper performance. An employee in this position will at times be designated as team/crew leader.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate various types of electric and gasoline-powered tools, construction equipment (dump trucks, forklifts, backhoes, tractors, etc.), mechanical and hydraulic equipment, and other types of equipment necessary in the performance of regular job assignments associated with the Department of Public Works (Sewer Construction and Maintenance, Street Construction and Maintenance, etc.) Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Perform other work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements or duties does not exclude other work which may be required.

  • Perform specific duties as defined in “Duties and Responsibilities”.
  • Utilize proper construction methods and safety precautions in the performance of duties.
  • Use of PPE as required.
  • Work overtime as required by supervisor.
  • On-call as required (Stand-by duty).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Possess a valid Kentucky Driver’s License or capable of attaining within 30 days of employment and CDL Class B.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in basic English.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions and instructions.
  • Physically capable of performing essential job functions.
  • Two years or acceptable equivalent experience as Maintenance I.
