Position Overview
Half Moon Resort (formerly Ruth Lake Resort) in Emily, MN, is under new ownership and hiring a Maintenance Lead to work full- to part-time as needed by season. We are looking for a flexible and dependable, hands-on maintenance person to help keep our lakeside resort and in-town event center running smoothly. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of hands-on tasks and takes pride in their work. This position may be ideal for someone living close to Emily, MN, but all interested applicants should apply. This position will support the seasonal changes and the day-to-day upkeep of the resort, including cabins, grounds, shared spaces, and the in-town event center. Hours and duties will vary based on seasonal needs, guest turnover, and special projects. Pay is negotiable and based on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repairs across cabins, resort buildings, and equipment.
- Assist with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical maintenance and projects.
- Schedule maintenance by independent vendors as needed for complex and annual maintenance needs.
- Adhere to and enforce all standards of quality, safety regulations, proper codes, and standards.
- Support seasonal changes around the resort including turning on/off water, heat, and power, assembling patio furniture, grills, and other new items, prepare docks, kayaks, boats, and fish cleaning house for summer.
- Oversee and maintain appliances, pontoons, lawn mowers, golf carts and other outdoor power equipment.
- Oversee and maintain a safe and organized maintenance shop, storage, and mechanical rooms.
- Aid in upkeep of grounds including lawn care, landscaping, gutter cleaning, beach, etc.
- Prompt response to on-call emergency maintenance needs, including evenings or weekends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of general maintenance, repairs, tools, equipment, and materials common to the trades.
- Strong attention and care to detail – always do the job well and make it look good!
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in extremes of climate (-20 to 110 degrees rain, snow, etc.)
- Comfortable taking directions from resort manager and resort owner, but also a self-starter who takes initiative on projects, troubleshoots issues, and works independently in an efficient manner.
- Valid driver’s license required and ability to pass background check.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, and push.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. to chest height.
- Ability to work with hands over their head and perform duties while standing on a ladder.
- Work with and around dust, paint, and chemicals with proper safety gear and protection.
Schedule & Compensation
- Flexible hours vary (part-time to full-time depending on season, needs, and ongoing projects).
- On-call availability is required.
- Pay is negotiable and compensation is based on experience.
Simpler tasks will also be completed by general resort attendants, such as lawn mowing, beach upkeep, trash removal, and stocking firewood. This position is senior to the resort attendants. Resort Attendants will report to the resort general manager and will take directions and supervision from both the resort Geneal Manager and Maintenance Lead. The resort has separate housekeepers to clean the cabins.
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
