Job Specification/Purpose of the Job

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations within the manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all machinery and equipment are operating efficiently, safely, and reliably. The Maintenance Manager's responsibilities are critical for minimizing downtime, enhancing production capabilities, and maintaining a high standard of safety and compliance in all maintenance activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Maintenance Operations Management:

  • Operational Oversight: Supervise all maintenance activities within the facility, ensuring that machinery and equipment are properly maintained and serviced.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to minimize equipment breakdowns and extend the lifespan of machinery.

Team Leadership:

  • Staff Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance team, providing training and support to enhance skills and ensure high performance.
  • Work Scheduling: Manage the work schedules of maintenance staff, ensuring adequate coverage for routine maintenance and emergency repairs.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Safety Standards: Implement and enforce safety protocols and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for maintenance personnel.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and guidelines related to maintenance activities and equipment safety.

Equipment Reliability:

  • Troubleshooting: Oversee troubleshooting and repair of equipment and machinery, ensuring quick resolutions to minimize production disruptions.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor equipment performance, analysing data to identify trends and implement improvements.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Budget Oversight: Manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and proper allocation of resources for maintenance activities.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the inventory of maintenance parts and supplies, maintaining adequate stock levels for timely repairs and maintenance.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintenance Records: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and compliance audits.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on maintenance performance, equipment reliability, and ongoing initiatives for senior management.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with production and engineering teams to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruptions to operations.
  • Project Participation: Collaborate on capital improvement projects and equipment upgrades to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
Education and Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; relevant certifications in maintenance management are preferred.

Experience: 5 10 years of experience in maintenance management within a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated leadership experience.

Special Training and Skills

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of maintenance practices for machinery and equipment used in manufacturing.

Proficiency in maintenance management systems and computer maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Leadership Skills: Proven leadership capabilities with a focus on team development and operational excellence.

Analytical Skills: Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills, with the ability to analyse data to inform decision making.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members, other departments, and management.
